The Baumit multi-layer thermal envelope

Every Baumit house wrap installed by Isotherm consists of fully integrated, laboratory-tested European components:

1. Baumit EPS / openSystem

100mm to 150mm graphite EPS or vapour-permeable openSystem mineral boards bonded with Baumit StarContact polymer adhesive and anchored mechanically into structural masonry.

2. StarContact & Mesh

High-tensile alkali-resistant fibreglass reinforcing mesh embedded fully into a flexible, crack-resistant polymer basecoat with diagonal window stress reinforcement patches.

3. SilikonTop Silicone Render

Breathable, hydrophobic silicone render topcoat with self-cleaning nano-technology. Repels rain, allows indoor vapour to breathe outward, and resists coastal salt spray and algae.

System FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Baumit EWI

Why does Isotherm specify Baumit external wall insulation as standard?+

Baumit is an Austrian-engineered, NSAI Agrément certified external wall insulation system designed specifically for extreme weather durability. In Ireland's damp maritime climate, Baumit openSystem and Baumit EPS provide the ideal balance of vapour permeability, thermal resistance (U-values down to 0.15 W/m²K), high impact resistance, and self-cleaning silicone renders (Baumit SilikonTop and NanoporTop) that prevent green algae growth.

How does Baumit compare to Ceresit and Sto?+

Baumit is our standard specified system because it provides superior vapour breathability and weather durability on Irish masonry. Budget acrylic renders like Ceresit can trap moisture within solid masonry walls, leading to blistering or premature delamination in Ireland's wet climate. Sto is a high-grade premium system that we also install on request for specific architectural specifications. However, Baumit provides the highest quality-to-value performance for residential retrofits under the SEAI grant scheme.

Are Baumit external insulation systems NSAI certified for SEAI grants?+

Yes. Baumit systems carry full NSAI Agrément certification (Agrément Certificate No. 10/0347), meeting all Part L Irish Building Regulations and making installations 100% eligible for SEAI Better Energy Homes grants of up to €8,000. As an SEAI Registered Contractor (#10423), Isotherm deducts the grant amount directly from your final invoice.

What is the difference between Baumit openSystem and Baumit EPS?+

Baumit openSystem utilizes perforated, highly breathable EPS or mineral wool boards designed for maximum vapour diffusion—ideal for older solid block, brick, and stone structures where internal moisture must escape freely. Baumit EPS uses high-density grey graphite-enhanced polystyrene boards for maximum thermal insulation thickness efficiency on standard suburban homes.

What render finishes and colours are available with Baumit?+

We finish our wraps with Baumit SilikonTop or NanoporTop silicone render, available in over 200 fade-resistant Life Colours. The microscopic nano-particle surface tension sheds dirt and pollutants automatically during rain showers, keeping your home facade clean and vibrant without requiring frequent power-washing.
